A treatable mental health condition marked by extreme mood changes
Bipolar disorder is a manageable mental health condition characterized by significant shifts in mood, energy, thoughts, and behavior. It is not a reflection of personal weakness or a flaw in character. Formerly called manic depression, bipolar disorder involves alternating mood states, swinging between the “highs” of mania and the “lows” of depression. These mood changes, also known as “mood swings,” can last anywhere from hours to months.
